Qualifications and Experience
I have been counselling since 2007. I have a Higher Professional Diploma in Counselling and I am an accredited member of the BACP. I have a Diploma in Therapeutic Supervision and I am a BFA Certified Focusing Teacher. I have a degree in Philosophy and Psychology. As well as working as a counsellor in private practice I have previously worked in Higher Education and a Psychiatric Hospital. I have a keen interest in mental health and emotional well being.
I worked for a number of years as a counsellor in a branch of Mind and at a Community Counselling Service. I have also counselled at a Performing Arts School, with an organisation supporting parents of abused children and with Further Education students. I have worked with a wide variety of issues and clients from different age groups, genders, ethnic backgrounds, sexualities etc.
I work to continually develop myself as a person and as a counsellor and to fulfil my ethical obligation to work responsibly with my clients. I have undergone training in areas such as sexual abuse, domestic violence, relationships, attachment issues and various mental health issues.
In addition to counselling I was a Samaritan volunteer for ten years.I also worked in the public sector for many years and have volunteered for homelessness and AIDS/HIV organisations.
My interests
I am passionate about the Person Centred approach to counselling and wider aspects of life. I am interested in a range of body related and holistic well being practices, such as Focusing, yoga, breathing, mindfulness, relaxation and visualisation. I have a commitment to equality and diversity and my professional training had a strong diversity element. I’m interested in social and political issues including links between mental health and inequality in society. I am also keen to maintain my connection with nature and consider how our increasing disconnection with nature has an impact on us.
Professional registration
I am a Registered and Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Registered members of BACP have been appropriately trained as counsellors, have regular supervision and undertake continuing professional development. We are also committed to working under the BACP's Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling. You can check that I am registered by entering my registration number 26325 into the BACP's Register Search.
BACP Accreditation is achieved by counsellors who have demonstrated that they meet a wide range of criteria which recognise high standards of knowledge, experience and development. The accreditation process involves not only demonstrating an amount of experience working with clients but also written submissions on reflective practice. My status as an Accredited counsellor is evidenced by the following individualised logo (which also displays my registration number).
